Winter YOC (Yu-gi-oh Online Championship) 2012 is upon us and loads of players are registering on the main yu-gi-oh site to try their hand at being crowned the world's best.
Round 1 of the YOC was recently won by Mizo7 from Japan who is ranked #20 in the world currently in the tournament rankings and has the title "Ultimate Gunslinger" I know firsthand how good Mizo is because they knocked me out of the tournament when it came down to the final 16 players (I'm Korra). I have made it to the final 16 a few times so I thought I might impart some YOC advice on hopefuls that are new to the system.
Participants in the preliminary rounds of Winter YOC are Awarded the Yusei Blue female and male duel disks. Go to Blister's to get your 2 free disks after you duel in the preliminaries (no wins necessary).
1. Your opponent's often watch your previous Rock/Paper/Scissors contests to know what you will likely pick for their round with you. Mix up your picks to avoid this pitfall.
2. They also watch your deck, and players with many decks will pick the best that is best suited. They can also add/edit cards before the duel starts, so if you are playing let's say a blackwing deck they will add 3x shadow imprisoning mirror and play lightsworn to face you.
3. Don't chat or do anything else other than focus on your duel. Distractions lead to mistakes.
4. If you are disconnected from the server while waiting for a duel login again quickly and go back to the championship grounds. If you get back in before the round starts you are safe.
5. Each round is roughly 30 minutes before the next round starts. Take your bathroom breaks and get refreshed if you have more than a few minutes of free time before the next round starts.
In addition to this advice you must have duelistt premium and have participated in a minimum of at least 250 duels before you can register for a YOC spot. If you do not have a spot you can enter at the time the tourney is about to start and hope to be randomly selected from open spaces.
There may be an exception to the 250 rule as I ran into a player named FinalWinner who had 88 wins and 0 loses until we dueled and they were able to enter but officially you need 250 duels.
Evolution
More repeats but they are a decent batch. you can buy 1 for every 10 stars you earn in evolution. After you get more than 30 stars the card order repeats. You must buy them from Blister's Outpost in the special packs section.
10 stars Dark general Freed
20 stars Infernity Destroyer
30 stars Guardian Eatos

New Event Cards posted by konami, out with the old and in with the err... old, well ok so it's a bunch of leftovers and spammed cards. You listened to our advice got rid of your event cards and can now buy them back for 1/3 the price. Tuningware has been rereleased in gunslinger expect prices to drop by probably 50% on this very useful card.
Evolution is currently happening and many players have been busy buying this set which includes
10 Stars Hand of the Six Samurai
20 Stars Infernity Necromancer
30 Stars Herald of Orange Light
This is a good set with useful cards. I reccomend trading or acquiring a few sets while they are at their lowest cost.
Duelist Trial is at Hand! with Clear World and Clear Vice Dragon making another appearance straight off the gunslinger trail. Each win in Duelist Trial gets you 1 star.
4 Stars Clear World
5 Stars Clear Vice Dragon
Gunslinger: More repeats but gs5 (5 win streak in gunslinger) is a real treat. Expect heavy competition as older players get off their other media to acquire 3 of this highly sought after card. Tuningware was going for 100-130 mp before this, this is probably the last or second to last opportunity to acquire tuningware in the game. (Tuningware might be in Anniversary Trial 100). Dont get too eager to collect more than 3 though remember that the Stardust Rising Boosterpass has 2 of them when you purchase this.
GS 5 Tuningware
GS6 Aurkus, Lightsworn Druid
GS7 Darklord Desire
NEW SCAM! WATCH OUT!
Scammers are offering free accounts under the guise that the accounts have rare flags in order to acquire the account back once you have added your cards to it and made it your "Home". The way the scam works is they give you the account information for free in many cases and you change the password thinking that the account is yours. It is right? WRONG! Remember konami issues an ID when an account is created that is that ID that konami considers to be the "TRUE" owner. They will simply write konami once you change the password and give them the ID claiming that they forgot the original password. When the new password is sent to them they will login and begin emptying the acount of it's contents. If you haven't added anything yet they can come back weeks or even months later and begin clearing them out. Do not fall for this scam you can acquire any country flag when you create an account at konami.
SCAM 2
EMAIL Alert! Change the registered emails on your accounts if you no longer have possesion of that email account. Scammers have been creating new email accounts on emails of former emails of players and writing konami asking for them to send their information to the registered email account.
Example you own This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and your account is Iamsouglydog99234 in game. These guys wait for players who don't use their old email addresses to expire ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Then they create the same account at hotmail becoming the new owner of that address. They then write konami with their email info and ask them to send userid and pw to them claiming they forgot it.. Some of them have been as bold as to give their userid as iamsouglydog figuring that if a player used it for their email and ign (in game name) they probably used it as their userid on the account. Toour knowledge nobody has lost their account yet this way (konami will not say), but this same is prevalent in many other online games and has worked many many times before.
The New TCB Booster set Order Of Chaos is happening January 14-15 at a local game shop near you. In it all players will receive a limited edition Ultra-Rare Inzektor Axe - Zetahawk just for attending.Zetahawk increasing your Inzektor's attack points by 1000 points and prevents your opponent from using spell and trap cards when it attacks.
Game shops will also be randomly giving away limited edition game mats with C30: Utopia Ray prominently featured on them. Order of Chaos has 3 themes to it.
The first theme is Light and Dark monster hence the name Order of Chaos. The second features a new type of insect called Inzektors and the third bring Ninjas and Ninjitsu art to the forefront of the yu-gi-oh universe.
Trance Archfiend allows you to discard fiend type monsters to increase it's attack by 500 which is great when paired in conjunction with a dark world deck. Furthermore when Trance is destroyed you can add 1 banished dark monster to your hand.
The new ninjas make the current Samurai meta look frail by comparison. White Dragon Ninja is both a Dragon and a ninja that prevents your spell and trap cards from being destroyed. The Real Gem however is Number 12: Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja a rank 5 Xyz monster. Once per tun you can detach 1 material monster from it to make your ninjas indestructible to battle and card effects. In Addition this incredible card can activate it's effect during your opponent's turn as well.
Tour Bus From the Underworld and gagaga monster also make an appearance in this set. Order of Chaos Becomes Tournament legal on January 24, 2012.
The Yu-gi-oh! Championships Series Continues on in 2012

Championship Series Trophy, A Top Series Cut Game Mat, an Invitation to compete in the 2012 World Championship qualifier as well as paid travel and accomodations to the event.
The top 32 players are guaranteed some sort of prize. It costs $20 to attend but you receive 4 packs of the latest booster Order of Chaos when you sign up.
Dragons Collide Structure Deck
The Dragons Collide Structure deck features a mixture of new and old Dragons. Fan favorites such as Dark Armed Dragon and Blue Eyes White Dragon, as welll as newcomers like Lightpulsar and Darkflare Dragon. Lightpulsar can be summoned from the hand by banishing (removing from play for us oldies) a light and dark monster from the graveyard if it is in the graveyard already you can send to the graveyard from the hand a light and dark monster to special summon it. This means that if you have Lightpulsar in th e graveyard and the hand you can send 2 cards from the hand to summon 2 Dragons with 2500 attack each. In addition if those monsters were fabled or darkworld you may have just gotten yourself a otk (one turn kill). The fun doesnt stop there however when Lightpulsar is sent from the field to the graveyard you can special summon 1 level 5 or higher Dark Dragon monster in your graveyard.
DarkFlare Dragon helps to fuel Lightpulsar with an effect that send one light and dark monster from the hand and deck to the graveyard to banish one monster in either players graveyard. This combos really well with the Eclipse Wyvern provided as when Wyvern is sent to the graveyard it can banish one of your high level dragon monsters from your deck, you get it back when you banish wyvern from play. these 3 cards together creat a chain of Special Summons that wear down and cripple your opponent. This deck will not be tournament legal until after the Championship Series in Mexico so we will have to wait until the Championship in Atlanta starrts to see how effective these 3 are.
